The world's first virtual dog leash has been unveiled

The Roam 350, developed by Heel, is promoted as the debut virtual dog leash, offering a novel solution for avoiding tangled leashes during walks. This innovative system consists of a collar and a remote control, linked via Autoprox's proprietary wireless technology, which bypasses the need for cellular networks, Wi-Fi, or GPS—making it particularly useful for remote or wooded outings.

Users can set leash lengths from 3 to 229 meters (10 to 750 feet), enabling the owner to control the extent of their dog's freedom. If the pet surpasses the pre-set boundary, the collar administers a warning and, if needed, a corrective signal. Methods of correction include sound alerts, vibration, and an option for static shocks, the latter raising concerns over its humane use.

Designed for dogs over 4 kilograms (around 8.8 pounds), this virtual leash offers a practical solution for those who wish to allow their dogs to roam relatively free while engaging in activities like hiking, camping, or working near their pets. It boasts a three-leash control capability through a single remote, integrating haptic feedback to inform the owner of any warnings issued.
