This App Transforms My Children's Screen Time into Something Much More Fruitful
When my children get screen time, their go-to choices are Paw Patrol, Paddington, and recently, the Olympics. While I don't mind these shows, particularly Paddington, I always look out for apps that can provide educational value beyond animated tales.
Though apps like Babbel and Duolingo are great, they demand a level of commitment that is not always practical. That’s why discovering Mozaik, an extremely simple yet engaging app, was a game-changer. Mozaik offers over 1,300 impressive 3D scenes to view on a smartphone or tablet, making it perfect for accessible, anytime learning.
Engaging and Educational: Why Mozaik is a Hit
Mozaik captivates my children by introducing them to subjects they wouldn't normally encounter at school, fostering a love for technology, physics, mathematics, and biology. One of their favorites is the 3D model of the ‘Four-Stroke Otto Engine,’ allowing them to explore engine mechanics safely at home. These fully interactive, 100% 3D models let users rotate, zoom, and take predefined guided tours, enriched by narrations and captions.
Hands-On Learning: Bringing Complex Topics to Life
Each section of the engine model includes explanatory videos showing how the engine functions, astonishing my kids as they visualize what happens inside our car. For older children, the animated guides for each engine part further deepen understanding. This in-depth approach applies across all models, whether it’s exploring the diesel engine or learning about coral, penicillin, and even piracy history.
Enhancing the Experience: Quizzes and Virtual Reality
Mozaik enriches the learning process with gamified, animated quizzes that keep children engaged and help cement new knowledge. Some scenes even support virtual reality; by placing a phone inside a VR headset, children can walk through ancient Athens, the Globe Theatre, or even the moon’s surface, adding an exciting dimension to their learning.
Accessible for a Cost
The app offers five educational 3D scenes for free. However, for complete access to all interactive content—including 3D scenes and education videos—a Student Digital Subscription is available for approximately $40 in the US or £30 in the UK. This subscription opens up a wealth of content that can engage both children and parents for hours.
A Summer Full of Learning
With summer holidays in full swing, I’m thrilled that Mozaik can expand my children's understanding of the world and how it functions. And who knows, I might learn a few things along the way as well.
