WhatsApp Status to soon get Instagram Stories like features: Here’s what you need to know
WhatsApp has recently introduced several Instagram-like upgrades, enhancing the functionality of its Status feature. Among the latest updates is the private tagging feature for Status updates, allowing users to tag contacts privately and re-share statuses where they're mentioned. Notably, mentions remain hidden in the tagged individual’s Status. According to a company blog post, "Make sure those closest to you see your status, and let them re-share it easily with their audience by privately mentioning them." This feature closely mirrors Instagram Stories.
The platform has also rolled out the ability to 'like' Status updates. Likes are private, exclusive to the status owner, and counter-free, following the Instagram model.
Going forward, WhatsApp plans to further enhance the Status and Updates tab with more features. Another anticipated update is the Meta AI voice feature, enabling diverse voice options, potentially adopting UK and US accents. This feature aims to enrich user experience by facilitating voice communication with AI—influenced heavily by the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg. The feature may include voices of public figures, although specific names are yet to be disclosed.
Recently, WhatsApp has been caught testing a redesigned typing indicator, promising improvements in both personal and group chat engagements by showing a chat bubble indicator for users typing messages. This ongoing feature experimentation from the Meta-owned messaging service highlights its ambition to seek new, engaging ways for users to connect.
