Adam Devine Jokes About Weight Loss Inspired by Potential Superhero Role
Adam Devine, the actor and comedian, claims his recent weight loss was partly influenced by a potential superhero role. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 41-year-old shared his motivation.
"I feel like this year, I'm in such a good rhythm, and I just want to stay on it," Devine expressed regarding his weight shedding journey. He added, "I like where I'm at right now."
Devine emphasized, "I'm not trying to get super lean. I just want to be prepared in case Marvel calls."
"If James Gunn calls and says, 'Hey, we’re ready for you in the DC universe,' I want to respond, 'Give me a couple of months, and I'll be there,’" the comedian remarked. He has collaborated with MyFitnessPal, a comprehensive food tracker and health app.
He shared that he gained "sympathy weight" when his wife, Chloe Bridges, was pregnant with their first child, Beau, born in February 2024.
"It was a real phenomenon for me," he noted, referring to Couvade syndrome. "I ballooned up, and I felt like I didn't resemble myself. I looked in the mirror, and it was like a cartoon version of myself."
Devine remarked, "Chloe was nourishing a child. It looked like I was too," humorously noting that he gained more weight than her. "I gained 28 pounds, while she gained about 26 pounds."
The Pitch Perfect star explained that witnessing the weight he gained affected his self-image. "I just wanted to feel like myself again," he said.
Devine acknowledged, "I've always eaten well and worked out, but it was the quantity of food and not realizing some items were unhealthy that contributed to my weight gain."
