Alec and Hilaria Baldwin welcomed a recorder journalist into their lively duplex apartment in New York City. The space reflects the energy of seven children: framed pictures, children's books, and delightful chaos fill the home.
During a recent interview, the couple described a typical day at home, where the activity level is high. "Come, come!" Hilaria calls as little feet scamper around, attempting to gather everyone for a family photo. Despite the lively atmosphere, she displays calmness. Her parenting mantra? "I’m going to go with the flow. Trying to fight seven little people? You’re greatly outnumbered."
Their new TLC reality series, "The Baldwins," will debut on February 23. It portrays both chaotic family moments and insights into Alec's recent legal challenges following the tragic shooting on the *Rust* set. The show captures their dynamic as parents while showing day-to-day activities like haircuts, pet care, and transportation between New York City and Long Island.

"This is our lives," Alec remarks, seated with Hilaria in their kitchen. They emphasize that their children bring them joy and fulfillment. Alec jokes with Hilaria, suggesting they could be attending a glamorous dinner instead. Hilaria playfully counters, "Instead we’re changing diapers!" This sentiment illustrates their acceptance of parenting realities.
Putting their lives on camera is a bold choice, especially given prior media scrutiny since they first met in a New York City restaurant 14 years ago. Hilaria and Alec have faced criticism regarding their age gap, family size, and other choices. Now, they aim to shift the narrative, confronting stereotypes surrounding their relationship and family life.

"Telling your story is one thing, and showing your story is something else," Hilaria explains. The couple engages in thoughtful discussions on the realities of their life—including conversations about a prenup. "I said I would," Hilaria recalls, while Alec adds that they ultimately decided against it.
For Alec, who recently became a grandfather, filming became a rewarding experience. He reflected, "We did the show because it’s in place of doing a movie or a play. Am I going to be away from my kids five nights a week until 11? I get to spend time with my family."

Filming, however, took place during a challenging time for the couple. They documented their lives during the weeks leading up to Alec's involuntary manslaughter trial following the accidental shooting on "Rust"'s set. Alec held a prop gun when it unexpectedly discharged, causing Halyna Hutchins's death and injuring Joel Souza, who has since recovered.
Although he asserted he never pulled the trigger, a grand jury indicted him, leading to a July trial. Fortunately for Alec, on the third day, the case was dismissed when his lawyers demonstrated evidence was withheld by prosecutors.
Hilaria noted the filming experience felt more like a refuge than an intrusion during their struggles. "It was a safe space for us to speak," she shared. "It felt both terrifying and like it could get us through day by day."

Wendy Douglas from TLC speaks highly of the couple's honesty and willingness to expose their vulnerabilities. Touching moments showcasing their reliance on one another are plentiful in the series. "I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have her," Alec reflects about Hilaria.
As the couple processes their grief, they remain conscious of others affected by the tragedy, including Hutchins’s family. Hilaria expresses poignantly, "A son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry that pain forever." However, coping with this kind of loss remains complex. "You can’t, but you do," she explains. "There is no recipe."

After concluding the trial, the couple now embraces their focus on gratitude in daily life. "The simple beauties of life can get you through hard moments," Hilaria says.
"The Baldwins" is slated to premiere on Sunday, February 23, at 10 PM E.T. on TLC.
