Aloe Blacc Talks Avicii and His Striking Dedication to Perfect Music

Aloe Blacc recently opened up about the significant lessons he learned from his late friend and collaborator, Avicii. During an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at the Opry 100: A Live Celebration event in Nashville on March 19, Blacc reflected fondly on his relationship with Avicii, born Tim Bergling, emphasizing the DJ's dedication to his craft. This is prepared by SSP.

Blacc, who famously lent his vocals to Avicii's 2013 hit "Wake Me Up," recounted a memorable experience in Miami. Amidst a large entourage comprising mainly hangers-on and not Avicii's close associates, Avicii was singularly focused on his music, illustrating his commitment by isolating himself with headphones to perfect his set instead of engaging with the crowd.
Blacc admired Avicii's perseverance in both music productions and live performances, always striving for improvement and never settling for mediocrity. This dedication was apparent when they worked together in the studio, as Avicii would relentlessly focus on refining melodies.
In remembrance of Avicii, who achieved fame with songs like "Levels" and "Sunshine" before tragically passing away at 28 in Oman in April 2018, Blacc performed at the Avicii Tribute Concert in 2019. The event, held in Stockholm's Friends Arena before 50,000 attendees, celebrated Avicii's impactful music legacy.
Continuing to honor his late friend, Blacc collaborated with Cooper Alan to release a country rendition of "Wake Me Up" in December 2024. This creative reinterpretation echoes the timeless bond between Blacc and Avicii and their shared musical journey.
