Amber Portwood Addresses Teen Mom Firing Rumors

Amber Portwood aims to clarify recent rumors about her departure from Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the latest installment she's participated in for over 15 years.
Portwood has expressed her dissatisfaction with the series. Following speculation regarding her firing, she wants to confirm that she voluntarily chose to exit. "Not only am I not being let go," she stated in a recent TikTok live session, referenced in a TMZ video posted on March 15. "I quit three days ago."
She communicated her decision to a producer, emphasizing that prioritizing her mental health is essential. "My mental health," she shared with fans during the live session, reiterated in another video shared by a fan on March 15, "is so much more important to me right now."
At 34, Portwood began her reality television journey in 2009 on 16 and Pregnant. There, she shared her life with then-boyfriend Gary Shirley and discussed her pregnancy with their first child, Leah, who is now 16. Leah resides with her dad, his wife Kristina Shirley, and their daughter Emilee, who is 9.
Portwood, who also has a son, James, aged 6, with ex Andrew Glennon, then starred in Teen Mom, which debuted the same year.
In 2015, she reunited with cast members Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell, and Maci Bookout in Teen Mom OG, before featuring alongside them and several Teen Mom 2 stars in Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. This series started in 2022 and is presently in its second season.
Over the years, Portwood has frequently voiced her concerns about her treatment on Teen Mom. In 2016, she expressed disappointment on Twitter, stating, "Sad to say but I'm not going to be apart of #Teenmomog [sic]" and remarked that her portrayal was "unfair."
Two years later, she tweeted, "I have to quit this show," adding that the emotional turmoil from the show became unbearable.
In early 2019, however, she revealed her desire to remain with the franchise. "I've been with this franchise for 10 years now, such a long time, and I just don't want to see the show go down like that," Portwood told E!'s Daily Pop as she expressed her wish to enhance the show's direction.
