Andrea Bocelli Reveals His Pre-Show Instrument Ritual
Andrea Bocelli has established a remarkable music career. The tenor, now 66, maintains his vocal health through a unique pre-show ritual. He shares, "I often play the flute, my trusted companion on every trip I take." This beloved instrument holds a vital role in his dressing room. Bocelli explains its benefits, "It also helps activate the vocal tract and exercise the diaphragm without exerting the vocal cords."
Starting in piano bars, Bocelli gained fame by winning the newcomers’ category at the 44th Sanremo Music Festival in 1994. Since then, he has produced an impressive portfolio, including 17 studio albums and five collaborative ones. With over 80 million records sold worldwide, Bocelli has earned six Grammy nominations.
Among his many songs, one stands out for Bocelli. He describes, "’Time to Say Goodbye,’ which has become a world classic." This 1996 duet with Sarah Brightman holds significant meaning for him. He adds, "It’s meant a great deal to me, and I never tire of singing it."
Bocelli's passion permeates his performances as he tours extensively. He has visited numerous locations, connecting with fans across the globe, including memorable experiences at home in Italy. One cherished gift came from a fan: "A statue of the patron [saint] of Brazil, given during an emotional moment of music and prayer at the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida," he says while recalling it fondly.
This year marked a milestone for Bocelli, as he celebrated three decades in music. He returned to his roots, performing three concerts at the Teatro del Silenzio in Tuscany. Bocelli entertained an audience of 30,000 fans, which included Kim and Khloé Kardashian. Reflecting on this significant event, he shares, "The Teatro del Silenzio concert… was a memorable [30th anniversary] event." Star guests like Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, and Ed Sheeran joined him on stage to celebrate the occasion.
