Andy Cohen Discusses Joan Rivers and His Approach to Botox
Andy Cohen, currently 56, insists he is all natural. "I’ve not touched [my face]. I’ve never even had Botox," he shared on the "How to Fail With Elizabeth Day" podcast, released on November 20. He reminisced about Joan Rivers, who "used to beg me to get Botox" before her passing.
Cohen believes he is one of the few television hosts in Hollywood who hasn’t opted for cosmetic enhancements. "Every guy I know hosting a TV show, mainly all are younger than me or about my age. They all have had Botox," he remarked. Observing their immobile foreheads, he commented, "Your forehead does not move. But I haven’t done it yet."
In the podcast, Cohen was identified as the only gay late-night television host. He humorously reflected, "How about that the gay guy is the one that doesn’t have the Botox?" He discussed how he remains open to Botox in the future. However, he views it as "not something that I think I need to do" for now. "I don’t know who I would be doing it for," he added, noting he might consider it "soon," but remains uncertain.
Cohen also shared a humorous encounter with a group of young men he saw this past summer. He described them as having overdone plastic surgery. "I said to my friend, ‘This is like Botched,’" he recalled, adding, "This has to stop. Your generation, what are you doing to yourselves? Like, you’re handsome young men. Stop this." He emphasized the need for individuals to "get a hold of themselves."
The Impact of Being a Gay Host
Pivoting back to his show, "Watch What Happens Live," Cohen explained how being gay has influenced his interactions with guests. "If I was straight and I was asking a lot of the women some conversations about body parts, I think I’m able to be more anatomical," he stated. His unique perspective allows for "honest conversations" in a safe environment with his female guests.
Cohen expressed, "I love camp, I love fun, I love dark humor, I love pushing the envelope." He believes his sexual orientation permits him to explore topics that other hosts, like Jimmy Fallon, might avoid. "I have an ability to ask Reba McEntire if she’s ever tried poppers," he concluded. "It’s a dialogue that wouldn’t happen on another show."
