Apple Withdraws from OpenAI Investment Talks
Apple has reportedly exited negotiations to join an OpenAI funding round expected to raise approximately $6.5 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. The tech giant stepped back from discussions for the funding round, which is anticipated to close next week.
Other companies, including Microsoft and Nvidia, are reportedly in talks to invest. Microsoft is expected to contribute about $1 billion, in addition to its prior investment of $13 billion in OpenAI.
OpenAI has not commented on the matter. Apple has not yet responded to a request for further details. Last month, the Journal revealed that Apple was involved in these negotiations as part of OpenAI's latest fundraising effort. This initiative could result in a company valuation exceeding $100 billion.
This high valuation stems from the competitive AI landscape ignited by OpenAI’s launch of ChatGPT in late 2022. The introduction of this technology has motivated companies across various sectors to invest significantly, aiming to maintain their competitive edge and increase market share.
