Ariana Grande Reveals Her Mom's Wish to Have Ashes Spread at Cinderella Castle
Ariana Grande recently shared an unusual desire of her mother, Joan, during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast. This episode aired on November 6. The singer discussed her mother's wish amidst conversations about iconic attractions at Disneyland and Disney World.
Grande detailed how her mom has expressed a strong desire to have her ashes spread at the Florida theme park, specifically at Cinderella's Castle. "When it comes to Florida...first of all, we get Cinderella’s Castle," she said. Grande humorously highlighted that her mother often insists, "You have to make sure that happens" whenever the topic comes up.
While promoting her upcoming film "Wicked," set for release on November 22, Grande admitted her reluctance. "I’m like, ‘Mom, I don't wanna make sure that that happens.'" She pointed out a comical concern about her mom's plan, mentioning, "I think there are actors back there. So you're gonna be sprinkled on people’s heads who are dressed as Tinker Bell."
In a light-hearted manner, podcast host Bowen Yang chimed in, commenting on the Castle Suite within the theme park. Grande recounted her experience changing in that suite while performing at the castle, describing it as "really beautiful and it feels very real."
Legally, however, Grande's mother’s wish cannot be realized. A 2018 report by the Wall Street Journal highlighted that spreading ashes at any Disney park is illegal. According to a Disney representative, the act is "strictly prohibited and unlawful." Those who violate this rule will be removed from the park.
If a guest’s ashes are discovered on an attraction, rides shut down due to "technical difficulties," with managers sent in to handle the cleanup. Custodians utilize an ultra-fine vacuum for what they call a "HEPA cleanup" to gather the remains.
Despite prohibitions, some visitors still attempt to scatter ashes, choosing spots like flower beds, ride paths, and notably, the Haunted Mansion. One custodian humorously remarked on the frequency of this occurrence, "The Haunted Mansion probably has so much human ashes in it that it’s not even funny."
