Astronaut Butch Wilmore's Daughter Daryn Shares How Dad Will Spend First Days Back on Earth

In anticipation of his March 18 homecoming, Daryn Wilmore shared her father Butch Wilmore’s plans for his initial days back on Earth. Butch returned after a nine-month ordeal in space with fellow astronaut Suni Williams.

Butch Wilmore will have a packed schedule upon returning to Earth. His first days consist of crucial tasks including medical assessments and reuniting with family.

"He's going to spend the next few days going in for tests," Daryn noted in a March 18 TikTok video. "There’s a lot of medical stuff since they're still technically part of the human spaceflight experiment. He’ll need to readjust to gravity and the daily routine because it’s been so different these past nine months."

Additionally, Butch's itinerary includes precious family time. Daryn wants to engage in activities together to "make up for lost time."

"I'm making him his favorite dessert, which is pecan pie," the college student shared. "I have a list of all his favorite things and activities we used to enjoy together. I hope we can do them while he's home before I return to school and in the coming months."

Daryn is excited to reunite, but she mentioned there won’t be any major celebration for his return.

"We're not having a party for him," she explained. "We might have a small get-together at my uncle's house over the summer with close friends, but nothing big."

Despite the modest return, Daryn beams with pride.

"I am so happy," she expressed. "He's accomplished such amazing work. This experience was unexpected, but all has been positive."

She continued, "I’m so proud of my dad, and I love him so much."

Looking ahead, Daryn envisions film possibilities inspired by Butch and Suni's adventure.

"Hollywood, I think a movie should happen," she said. "If you’d like, I have ideas. People love space movies. Apollo 13? It’s fantastic. But imagine how great this story could be. Just a thought I'm putting out there."
