Aubrey Plaza Separated From Husband Jeff Baena Long Before His Passing

Aubrey Plaza and her husband, Jeff Baena, had been separated for several months before his tragic death by suicide in January. This information comes from a Medical Examiner’s report obtained by E! News.
The couple experienced marital challenges leading up to this sad event. They married in 2021 after a decade-long relationship. According to reported findings, they encountered significant difficulties before Baena's death, leading to their separation in September, when Plaza moved to New York.
Despite being apart, police records indicate that the estranged couple communicated on the phone the night prior to his demise. Additionally, Plaza disclosed receiving a text message from Baena just hours before he was pronounced dead—which was his last message to her.
The Medical Examiner reported that Baena’s dog walker discovered him unresponsive. The dog walker entered his home after noticing unusual loud music.

Three days after his passing, Plaza, alongside Baena’s family, shared a statement expressing their grief. This statement included his mother, Barbara Stern, and stepfather, Roger Stern. They described the loss as "an unimaginable tragedy." They thanked everyone who offered their support and requested privacy.
Plaza returned to the public eye about a month later during the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special. She had once worked as an SNL intern and NBC Page. During the event, she introduced the musical performance by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard, honoring her late husband's interest in music with her choice of attire — a black blazer over a tie-dye shirt.
Other celebrities, including Molly Shannon, Alison Brie, and Jake Johnson, also paid tribute to Baena after his death. Jake Johnson succinctly expressed his feelings on social media, stating, "I love you Jeff. Hate your last move. But still love you."
