Ben Affleck Opens Up About Divorce from Jennifer Lopez: "There’s No Scandal"

Ben Affleck recently acknowledged his split from Jennifer Lopez, addressing rumors concerning the reasons for their divorce. In an interview with GQ published on March 25, Affleck discussed his participation in Lopez’s 2024 documentary, "The Greatest Love Story Never Told." The film served as a companion piece to her visual album "This Is Me ... Now," featuring moments in which Affleck talked about their relationship.

Affleck expressed, "Part of it was, ‘If I'm going to participate in this, I want to be honest and create something interesting.’" He praised Lopez for handling fame remarkably, stating, "She manages celebrity better than I do." He continued, recognizing their differing approaches to public life. "I’m more reserved and private," he noted. Affleck added that his admiration for her drives his support, wanting audiences to see her in a positive light.
Reflecting on his decision to appear in the documentary, Affleck said, "You don’t marry a ship captain and then claim to dislike the water." He emphasized taking responsibility for entering the relationship.

In the interview, Affleck stressed that there was no "major fracture" causing their marriage to end. "You can’t watch that documentary and think you understand the problems we had," he said, highlighting the lack of drama around their split. Affleck enjoys sharing about his life in a measured way. "I have a lot of respect for [Jennifer]," he shared.
He also noted the inclination to pinpoint reasons behind breakups, which complicates understanding. "The truth is much more everyday than what many would believe," he elaborated. "There’s no scandal or intrigue about our divorce." Affleck reinforced that their story is about individuals navigating their lives and relationships, a common experience for many.

Affleck and Lopez were initially engaged from 2002 to 2004 and reunited in 2021, only to separate three years later. Their divorce was finalized in January after extensive speculation about their relationship.
A source informed Us Weekly that while Lopez was deeply in love, "love isn’t always enough." The same source added, "Things worked out for the best."
Currently, Lopez, who shares 17-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, is actively engaged in major movie projects and enjoying her single life. She is embracing this time and focusing on her well-being.
