Benny Blanco Shares Insights on Engagement with Selena Gomez

Benny Blanco recently revealed that his fiancée, Selena Gomez, was not in the best mood before his proposal. "She was like, ‘I really don't feel that well. I think I'm just going to stay home today,’" Blanco recalled during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Blanco, 37, discussed the events leading up to his engagement with Gomez, 32. Host Jimmy Fallon congratulated the couple and asked Gomez if she sensed the proposal was coming. She shared that it was a surprising moment that turned her gloomy morning around. Gomez explained, "We had to do a lot of promo for the album. I woke up feeling confused about what was happening and where we were headed. I was tired and a little grumpy."

Gomez continued, "I told Benny I planned to hang out with friends after the shoot." Blanco added that Gomez had reservations about attending, stating, "She almost didn't even come." He explained, "She was like, ‘Can't we just move the shoot to another day?’ I remember thinking, ‘Uhh...’ as I figured out how to proceed."

Blanco delved deeper into engagement complexities, stating, "Getting engaged is an overwhelming experience. Right as I was about to propose, she's as if hinting that I should prove my honesty." He noted that Gomez was upset the day before because he had not been truthful.

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in December 2024, marking just over a year of dating. Benny's creative proposal included a romantic picnic with Gomez’s favorite food—Taco Bell. Photos showcased Gomez wearing an oval-shaped marquise diamond ring.

When Fallon inquired about the ring's location prior to the proposal, Blanco shared, "It was in a box, hidden in a bag I thought nobody would touch. That week was the scariest of my life."

Fallon also pressed for their wedding plans. Blanco stated, "Currently, we're not planning much. Our focus is on our first album, 'I Said I Love You First,' releasing on March 21."

On March 19, the couple surprised fans with an appearance at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York City. They attended a screening of Gomez’s film, Spring Breakers, and treated the audience to a sneak peek of their new song, "Bluest Flame."
