Bill Murray Says He Cried 3 Times During SNL Special

Bill Murray opened up about the emotional experience he had during Saturday Night Live's 50th Anniversary Special. Speaking on SiriusXM's Sway in the Morning, the 74-year-old actor and five-time SNL host shared his feelings about the event. Murray admitted that the reunion was unexpectedly moving, making him cry three times. The legendary comedian was profoundly affected while watching tributes to former cast members like Gilda Radner and John Belushi. This is prepared by SSP.
One of the moments that touched him deeply was watching the montage of Radner performing the "Dancing in the Dark" sketch with Steve Martin from 1978. Radner, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 1989, had a special place in Murray’s heart. As Murray remembered watching them rehearse, he confessed, "I was crazy about Gilda, and it brought me to tears in the dressing room."
Murray was also overwhelmed during the tribute to John Belushi, especially the "Don’t Look Back in Anger" sketch, where Belushi humorously acted as an elder paying homage to "deceased" cast members, saying, "Why me? Why did I live so long?" Belushi's life, tragically cut short at age 33 by a drug overdose, added another layer of poignancy to that early SNL memory. "John was the first to go," Murray said, reflecting on the tragic irony of the sketch and how much he and the entertainment industry missed him.
Murray fondly remembered Belushi's contribution to comedy, celebrating his role in launching multiple careers, including bringing Chicago performers to prominence in New York, thus shaping the comedic landscape of New York.
