Billy Eichner Reflects on His First Movie Experiences: A Blend of Disney and 80s Classic
Billy Eichner has shared that his first experiences at the movie theater were quite significant. "I think the first movie I ever saw in a theater was "Bambi," " the actor-comedian, age 46, tells PEOPLE exclusively. Eichner humorously adds, "Followed incongruously by "Flashdance." I'm sorry! It was!" His parents, bless them, took him to 1983’s R-rated "Flashdance" right after "Bambi," he clarifies. That unusual combination, he suggests, has shaped his identity today. "I'm a gay man. Okay?"
Seth Rogen, who voices Pumbaa alongside Eichner’s Timon in "Mufasa: The Lion King," reminisces about his childhood viewing of "Bambi." "I saw "Bambi" from a very young age," he recalls. Rogen names other feel-good Disney classics as favorites, specifically mentioning Pixar films. "I like those Pixar movies a lot, especially the "Toy Story" films," he notes. Rogen reveals that the third "Toy Story" installment, released in 2010, stands out for him. "It's too emotional for me to casually watch, but if I see it on, I'll turn it on. It's great."
Eichner recalls other nostalgic films, like "The Muppets Take Manhattan." "I just re-watched that," he adds. Although not originally a Disney film, he knows it's now available on Disney+. The Muppet Christmas Carol holds a special place for him every holiday season. When it comes to a more recent Disney classic, Eichner does not hesitate. "I did watch 'Inside Out 2' alone,'' he says, adding, "I was moved to tears to an uncomfortable degree as a 46-year-old man."
Following the photorealistic "The Lion King" remake in 2019, Eichner and Rogen return to their roles in "Mufasa: The Lion King." Directed by Barry Jenkins, the musical prequel is currently in theaters. It features talents such as Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka (Scar), and voices of Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter, and others.
