Blake Lively's It Ends With Us Credits Hint at Connection to Deadpool and Wolverine

Blake Lively may have subtly suggested a link between her film It Ends With Us and Ryan Reynolds' character Nicepool. This connection arises from observers noticing similarities between Nicepool and Lively's film director and costar, Justin Baldoni.

In the end credits of It Ends With Us, Lively expressed gratitude to "Gordon Reynolds," which is Ryan’s alias. This name appears in the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine where Ryan plays Nicepool. This character is a fictional superhero who sports a man bun. In the movie, Nicepool states it is fine to comment on Ladypool's (played by Blake) post-baby appearance, saying, "I identify as a feminist."

Blake filed a formal lawsuit in December 2024, alleging that Justin Baldoni sexually harassed her on set. According to her claim, he made inappropriate comments regarding her appearance and post-baby weight. Despite this, Blake referenced Deadpool and Wolverine's characters in a message related to It Ends With Us several months before her lawsuit.

In July 2024, the A Simple Favor actress appeared to mention Nicepool while encouraging women to support the superhero film. This was surprising since her own movie was set to compete with it in theaters just three weeks later.

Lively explained that the Marvel film drew from her life and the experiences of women, noting feelings about the post-baby phase and men who leverage feminism. "MY WORD… it’s hard not to encourage my ladies to spot all the ways we’ve influenced @deadpoolmovie," she wrote in her Instagram post. She emphasized her pride and mentioned her experience of giving birth four times.

Following fan reactions about similarities between Nicepool and Justin, his lawyer, Benjamin Freedman, expressed concern. He argued that if someone's wife experiences sexual harassment, making light of it is inappropriate. He stated, "You take it very seriously, you file HR complaints," rather than mock the situation.

Freedman has since issued a litigation hold letter requesting that Marvel and Disney preserve records related to the creation of the Nicepool character. He has also requested documents that demonstrate any effort to mock or intimidate Baldoni through this character.
