Blues Brothers Actress Dalyce Curry Dies at 95 After Home Burned in Los Angeles Fires
The remains of 95-year-old Dalyce Curry, an extra in The Blues Brothers, were found at her home in Altadena, California. Her house was destroyed by the ongoing fires in Los Angeles.
The wildfires in Los Angeles have caused another tragic loss. Dalyce Curry, affectionately called "Momma Dee" by her family, was discovered after the Easton Fire ravaged her residence, according to her granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley.
In a Facebook post on January 12, Kelley expressed deep sorrow over her grandmother's death. "We had a great run," she said, noting that a coroner confirmed the identity of the remains. "She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating."
Curry appeared as an extra in numerous iconic films, including The Blues Brothers, The 10 Commandments, and Lady Sings the Blues. She was last seen on January 7 after Kelley dropped her off at home following a hospital stay. When Kelley checked the site on January 10, little was left, and her grandmother was missing.
"It was total devastation," Kelley remarked. "Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac."
After the remains were identified, another granddaughter, Teresa Kelley-Harris, asked her Facebook followers to "please continue to lift up my family in prayer." Another relative noted that Curry remained vibrant and engaged despite her age. "She was very active," said Loree Beamer-Wilkinson. "You would not think she was 95."
At least 24 individuals have died in this devastating fire, though the complete scope of casualties remains uncertain, as reported by NBC News. Furthermore, strong Santa Ana winds are predicted to return, increasing the risk of new fires in the area due to dry conditions.
"It’s very important," stated Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, "that the community understands that these wind events are coming."
