Bollywood Star Saif Ali Khan Stabbed in Alleged Home Invasion

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is recovering after being stabbed multiple times during a suspected home invasion in Mumbai. The actor, aged 54, sustained at least six stab wounds, including a severe injury near his spine. This incident occurred early Thursday, January 16, at his residence in the Bandra area, as reported by the ANI news agency.

Dr. Nitin Dange from Lilavati Hospital, where Khan is receiving treatment, reported that the actor faced "a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife." The BBC further detailed that Khan underwent surgery to extract the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Additionally, plastic surgeons addressed two deep lacerations on his left hand and one on his neck.

Khan's team informed ANI that he has exited surgery and remains out of danger. "He is currently recovering, and doctors are observing his progress. All family members are safe, and a police investigation is ongoing," they confirmed. They expressed gratitude towards the medical team, including Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Dr. Nitin Dange, Dr. Leena Jain, and those at Lilavati Hospital. The statement also thanked fans and well-wishers for their thoughts during this time.

Mumbai’s Deputy Police Commissioner, Dixit Gedam, indicated that an investigation is in progress along with a city-wide manhunt. "One suspect has been identified but remains at large," Gedam noted, per Sky News. Police revealed that the attacker accessed the home through a fire escape and is exploring potential accomplices. Teams are deployed throughout Mumbai and its outskirts in search of the perpetrator.

Khan is married to fellow Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, and they have two children, Taimur, age eight, and Jeh, age four. Kapoor’s team stated, per the Indian Express, "An attempted burglary took place at their residence last night. Saif sustained an arm injury, prompting his hospital visit. The rest of the family is fine, and we ask the media and fans not to speculate any further while police conduct investigations."
