Boxer Paul Bamba Passes Away at 35, Manager Ne-Yo Shares Heartfelt Tribute
Professional boxer Paul Bamba has sadly passed away at the age of 35. His manager, singer Ne-Yo, confirmed the news on Friday, December 27. The confirmation came through a joint statement with Bamba’s family, US Weekly reported.
The statement read, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend, and boxing champion Paul Bamba. His light and love touched countless lives. He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition for greatness. More than anything, he was an exceptional individual who inspired many with his drive and determination."
In closing, the message expressed: "We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief."
Ne-Yo shared this statement on his Instagram Story, set against Nipsey Hussle’s "Victory Lap." Bamba signed with the management company owned by Ne-Yo in November. This marked the singer’s debut in boxing promotion.
Regarding the decision, Ne-Yo said to NBC News last month, "To be completely honest? Just believe in the fighter. Realizing how we could support each other made sense. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t shoot. So let me see what it’s about and give it a try."
Ne-Yo found inspiration in Bamba’s unwavering determination and commitment. He remarked, "You’d be surprised how rare that is nowadays. Everybody wants it the quick and easy way. But Paul Bamba is not one of them."
In the days leading up to his passing, the cause of death has not been confirmed. Just six days before, he became the WBA Gold Cruiserweight champion following a fight with Rogelio Medina. Bamba shared his triumph via Instagram on December 25.
He wrote, "This year I set out with a goal. I achieved that. It wasn’t easy; there were many obstacles, but I adapted and kept to the path we aimed for despite the challenges. Fourteen fights. Fourteen knockouts ending with the WBA Gold Cruiserweight world title."
Bamba expressed gratitude for his support system, stating, "Blessed to have my family, team, and supporters. If you have an ‘outlandish goal,’ chase it. Prove the naysayers wrong!"
Following Bamba’s victory, Ne-Yo shared another tribute on Instagram, proclaiming, "The best is yet to come. Congrats, my guy!! Honored to be your manager. Let’s keep going!!!"
