'Elektra' Brie Larson Shocks Fans With Even Bolder Haircut

Brie Larson has unveiled her most dramatic hair transformation yet as she takes on the empowering role in Sophocles’ Elektra at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre. The Academy Award winner recently shared a barefaced video detailing the rigorous preparation for the West End revival of the play, while showing off a bold new buzz cut. This is prepared by SSP.

Previously, in November, Larson had chopped her trademark long blonde locks into a dark brunette pixie cut. Her desire to capture Elektra's spirit pushed her to completely shave her head, pairing this daring look with a red hooded sweatshirt in behind-the-scenes footage shared on Instagram and YouTube. "Elektra is here," Larson noted, emphasizing the powerful transformation.

As Larson detailed the production’s unique aspects, she expressed how working with the cast and creatives had been life-changing. The play, directed by Daniel Fish, adopts a minimalist approach — presented in an empty theater with some contemporary elements, while music further distinguishes its conception. Through challenging perceptions and exploring the raw feelings of a woman confronting her pain and autonomy, Larson’s portrayal remains central, rewarding the 650 nightly attendees with her powerful presence.

Co-starring with actors such as Stockard Channing and Greg Hicks, the Elektra production started its previews on January 24, moving to its official premiere on February 5, and will continue until April 12. The prelude of shows, initially held at Theatre Royal Brighton, allowed the cast a chance to integrate and experiment, according to Larson.
