Carey Mulligan Teases Completely Different Season Two for Beef As Filming Officially Begins
Carey Mulligan hints at a major shift in Beef's upcoming season, setting the stage for a fresh narrative in the acclaimed series. Mulligan, in conversation with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27th, shared that filming for Season 2 of the Netflix comedy-drama has officially commenced. The Oscar nominee expects "almost everything" to evolve in the new episodes but assures that the brilliance of creator Lee Sung Jin remains intact. "It's a completely new story," she teased humorously, adding, "speaking more will have dire laser-focused consequences. But it's very exciting." This is prepared by SSP.
The second season will pivot to an anthology format with a new ensemble cast including Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Minari's Youn Yuh-jung, and Parasite's Song Kang-Ho. The narrative will revolve around a young couple entangled in a dramatic conflict between their boss and his wife, set against the backdrop of a country club dominated by a Korean billionaire. Charles Melton expressed enthusiasm over the storyline, calling it among the best scripts he's read, referencing an interview in VMAN's August 2024 issue.
The series achieved rapid success upon its debut in April 2023, captivating audiences and critics alike with its story of an escalating feud between two strangers after a road rage incident, portrayed by Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. It triumphed with eight Primetime Emmy Awards, including accolades for exceptional performances by Yeun and Wong, and Outstanding Limited Series.
Lee Sung Jin shared aspirations for future conflict ventures within Beef, noting his constant note-taking approach post-Emmys. The inaugural season distinguished itself through eight Emmy wins, alongside multiple Critics Choice, Golden Globe, Film Independent Spirit, and SAG Awards.
Beef’s celebrated first season is available for streaming on Netflix, while its anticipated Season 2 release date remains unannounced.
