Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra Discuss Blocking by Adoptive Parents

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, stars of "Teen Mom," recently shared the reasons behind the blocking by their daughter Carly's adoptive parents, PEOPLE reported. The couple placed Carly, now 15, for adoption in 2009. Carly was welcomed into the family of Brandon and Teresa Davis. The incident was addressed in the "Teen Mom: The Next Chapter" episode that aired on March 27.
In a previous episode, Catelynn expressed that Brandon and Teresa had severed communication unexpectedly, despite starting with an open adoption. Catelynn and Tyler, now both 33, provided additional details on this situation during the most recent March episode. Catelynn revealed that Brandon told their adoption counselor that he needed to block her for his mental health. She questioned his reasoning, citing her own emotional struggles reconnecting with her firstborn daughter.
Currently, Catelynn clarified further actions taken by Teresa. Catelynn alleged that Teresa instructed their counselor to communicate that they no longer wanted to receive gifts, deeming it inappropriate. Catelynn exclaimed her intent to speak freely despite Teresa's wishes, saying, "You can’t take my story, too," in response to Tyler’s involvement.
Catelynn mentioned that Teresa also expressed needing a "very sincere apology" from them. Catelynn called out this request, questioning which actions she deserved an apology for. "You for putting the truth out about how you are?" she challenged, defending her stance on sharing their experience.
Compounding the situation are Teresa's sensitivities to Carly referring to Catelynn’s other children as her sisters. Catelynn explained how Carly often identifies her siblings this way. Tyler underscored the confusion over what terminology would be appropriate to address these relationships. "Should we say birth sister?" he asked, demonstrating their concern to navigate the complexities smoothly.

Catelynn emphasized that their reason for public disclosure centers around making sure Carly knows they never stopped trying to have a relationship with her. She commented on the importance of awareness regarding the adoption process.
In previous discussions on the impact of Carly’s abrupt absence, Catelynn described experiencing what she termed "adoption PTSD." Despite progress made in therapy concerning her initial trauma, she found herself facing unexpected emotional turmoil during the recent events. She articulated how challenging it is when her children witness her emotions.
"My kids ask, ‘Why are you crying?’ and it’s hard to articulate that feeling," she shared, expressing openness with her children about her feeling of missing Carly. Catelynn acknowledged the support her younger children provided during this distressing time. Balancing her role as a mother while wrestling with these feelings continues to create a dual burden for her.
