Céline Dion Honors Late Husband René Angélil on His 83rd Birthday: "You Are a Part of Us Every Day"
Céline Dion remembered her late husband, René Angélil, with a touching tribute on what would be his 83rd birthday, PEOPLE reported. In an emotional Instagram post shared on January 16, the renowned singer reflected on their cherished memories together.
Dion, 56, conveyed her feelings in a heartfelt message, stating that despite the day being significant, it’s every day that they celebrate their love and shared life. "Today is your birthday, but the date doesn’t matter because there isn’t a day that we aren’t celebrating life with you," she wrote, accompanying the black-and-white photo of Angélil. "You are a part of us every day in the memories we cherish."
Throughout their 22-year marriage, which ended with Angélil's death in 2016 due to throat cancer, Dion embraced the enduring impact he had on her and their family. She recounted, "While going through all the years of pictures and videos that consistently keep you alive, we hear your voice...We celebrate you always. Happy Birthday René, Notre Amour."
Dion concluded her emotional tribute by signing off as "Céline, RC, Nelson, and Eddy xx." This mentioned her family's enduring connection to Angélil, particularly their three children: René-Charles, born in 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, who were born in 2010.
A few days earlier, Dion highlighted another poignant occasion — the anniversary of Angélil’s passing. In a recent post, she shared a snapshot of her and her children dressed in neutral tones, set against a backdrop of festive décor.
"René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already," she expressed. Dion communicated how their presence continues to resonate in her life, stating, "Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence. You were my greatest champion, my partner...I honor you, and you are forever missed mon amour…We love you. – Celine xx…"
Céline and René would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on December 17. Their path together began when they met professionally when Dion was just 12. Their romantic relationship blossomed when she turned 19, and though they kept their romance discreet, it grew into a deep partnership. They became engaged in 1993 and were wed the following year.
During their marriage, Dion momentarily stepped away from music to care for Angélil, who faced cancer three separate times.
Following Angélil's death, Dion confronted health challenges of her own. In December 2022, she revealed her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological condition causing debilitating muscle spasms. However, she marked a significant return to the stage at the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony in July.
As 2025 approaches, Dion expressed excitement about "endless possibilities" in her life and career, revealing her resilience and drive.
