Channing Tatum Vows to Avoid ‘Fat Roles’ After Losing 30 Pounds

Channing Tatum has made a firm commitment to stop gaining weight for film roles. The actor shared this decision on Instagram, emphasizing it can be "too hard on the body."
On Friday, March 21, Tatum posted three photos showcasing his body changes over the years. In these images, he highlighted his determination to refrain from "fat roles" due to the physical toll they take.
In the first photo, Tatum exhibited his toned physique while shirtless and wearing black boxers. The second image showed him with a fuller frame in front of a bathroom mirror. His third photo depicted him as noticeably slimmer while again posing shirtless.
In the caption, Tatum wrote, "We back up! Lol. 1st photo is today 205 pounds, 2nd photo 235 pounds for a movie called "Josephine." Then went to 3rd photo which is 172 pounds for a movie "Roofman." He expressed gratitude toward his genetics while acknowledging the roles of his chef, nutritionist, and trainer.
"I couldn't make these big swings in my weight without you guys," Tatum noted. He reiterated his stance on no longer playing fat roles. "It’s too hard on the body and too hard to take off now. But damn, when I look at these pics, it’s just wild what the human body and will can do."

Tatum's post follows a shirtless selfie from December 2024, taken during the production of the heist film "Roofman." In that snapshot, he included a behind-the-scenes picture of himself while getting his tattoos covered as he prepared for his role as real-life thief Jerrey Manchester. "Chaos of tattoo covering and wigs," he captioned that image.
Previously, Tatum discussed his struggles with maintaining fitness on The Kelly Clarkson Show in February 2022. He commented on the difficulty of staying in shape, especially when balancing work. "It’s my full-time job, and I can barely do it. But you workout twice a day, and you have to eat completely right at a certain time. It’s a specific thing," he explained.

He admitted it's now harder to lose weight compared to his younger years. "When I was younger, it was easier to fluctuate," Tatum shared. "But now, I can’t get it off as easy."
