Chris Diamantopoulos Reflects on The Office Fandom and New Project
Chris Diamantopoulos shares that fans of The Office aren't hesitant to voice their displeasure about his character. At 49, Diamantopoulos, who now stars in The Sticky on Prime Video, recalls his impactful role in the final season of the popular NBC sitcom. He played Brian, the boom mic operator whose feelings for Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) created tension between the fan-favorite couple, Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam. This is prepared by SSP.
Even 11 years post-finale, fans continue to approach him, declaring, "How dare you try to break up Jim and Pam?" Despite this, he notes a change in the public's attitude. "Recently, people are saying, ‘You know what? I kind of feel like Pam might have been happy with Brian,’" he explains.
Diamantopoulos suggests that reimagining the storyline could have added depth. "How scandalous would that have been?" he muses. He highlights the potential growth of Pam into a strong, independent woman choosing Brian. "That would have been f—ing amazing," he states, reflecting on a missed opportunity in storytelling.
He expresses admiration for his time on The Office, mentioning how Krasinski, Fischer, and Greg Daniels were heavily invested in the show’s conclusion. He describes his unique position amidst differing opinions, "I was caught in between three diverging opinions."
In his recent role in The Sticky, Diamantopoulos appears alongside Margo Martindale and Jamie Lee Curtis. The series is inspired by the true story of the 2012 "Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist." His character, mobster Mike Byrne, collaborates with Martindale’s maple syrup farmer, Ruth Landry, and Guillaume Cyr as security guard Remy Bouchard to orchestrate a multi-million dollar theft in Quebec. Working with seasoned actors Curtis, 66, and Martindale, 73, has been a "career highlight" for him. The Sticky season 1 is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
