Chris Evans Returns to Marvel for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Chris Evans will make a surprising return to the Marvel universe. The actor, 43, has confirmed his role in Avengers: Doomsday, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter on December 9. The film is scheduled for release in May 2026, though Evans' exact role remains unknown.
Previous Marvel Appearances
Evans portrayed Captain America, also known as Steve Rogers, in 11 Marvel Cinematic Universe films from 2011 to 2019. His character, Rogers, retired from the superhero role during Avengers: Endgame. This storyline has led fans to speculate whether Evans will return as Captain America, as Steve Rogers, or whether he will embody a different character.
In addition, Evans had a cameo as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine earlier this year. This led to rumors about him reprising that role in Avengers: Doomsday.
Remarks on Returning
At the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle in March this year, Evans discussed returning to the role of Captain America. He expressed that coming back to the MCU "doesn't feel quite right" currently but hinted, "I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell."
Evans also noted his protective feelings towards his iconic role. "It’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much," he shared. He emphasized, "I just don’t want to mess up in any way." Reflecting on his time in the MCU, he said, "I was a part of something that was so special."
Favorite Marvel Movie and Defending the Genre
During the same panel, Evans revealed that his favorite MCU movie is Captain America: The Winter Soldier from 2014. "It’s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of." He mentioned that his experience during filming was more comfortable compared to the initial film. "When Winter Soldier came around, we were playing to win."
Furthermore, he spoke in defense of superhero films, countering the criticism they often receive. "Comic book movies don't always get the credit they deserve," Evans stated. He pointed out the complexity in creating these films, saying, "If it was easier, there would be a lot better ones."
