Chris Olsen Shares Disturbing Subway Experience on New Year’s Day
On January 1, 2025, influencer Chris Olsen recounted a frightening incident aboard a New York City subway. He and his friend, Caroline Haroldson, uploaded a video detailing the shocking events they encountered, PEOPLE reported.
Olsen, 27, mentioned that he's a frequent subway rider. He expressed familiarity with the unpredictable nature of some passengers. When they heard shouting, Caroline felt uneasy, but Olsen reassured her. He stated that yelling is common on the subway.
The situation escalated when, according to Olsen, a shouting passenger brandished "a really big knife." He admitted not seeing the knife, which caused him not to take the event seriously. Chaos ensued as passengers rushed toward them. The door between train cars was stuck, and Olsen described how he managed to "rip it open" to let others in.
The tension grew as they heard screams behind them amidst the crowd pushing against them. "We don't know if someone has brought out a gun," Olsen recalled. Suddenly, a passenger pulled the emergency brake, halting the subway. After what felt like only minutes but seemed much longer, the conductor unlocked the door, allowing everyone to exit into the next car.
Olsen explained that once they settled down, they waited for around 20 minutes before the train moved again. He reassured followers that he and Haroldson managed to stay calm during this period. However, once they exited the train car, the emotional toll of the experience caused them to both break down in tears.
He ended his video with a safety message for his viewers. Hours later, he addressed a moment when someone recognized him while fleeing the scene. "Sorry to the girl who yelled at me 'OMG you're Chris Olsen!' while I was running away," he wrote. A commenter claiming to be that fan responded, prompting Olsen to suggest, "Let’s get lunch."
