Chris Pratt Says He Made a "Deal With God" to Save His Son

Chris Pratt experienced a pivotal moment in his faith on becoming a father. His eldest son, Jack, was born seven weeks premature in 2012, weighing just 3 pounds and 10 ounces. Jack spent a month in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before he could come home.
Chris reflected on this challenging time in an interview with the Christian Post, stating, "He had all of these issues going on. I prayed hard to God. I was in a season of transition spiritually at that time, and didn't quite fully understand." He described having a deep conversation with God, expressing his desperation: "I'm sorry, God, here I am again, asking for your grace again."
A Faith Renewed
Pratt believed that God saved his son, solidifying his faith. "That was the moment that I was like, 'Moving forward, I'm going to give my platform to God,'" he said. This resolve marked a transformation in his heart and faith.
The actor also reflected on his upbringing and faith journey. "I was baptized Catholic. We weren't a big churchgoing family," he mentioned. "Throughout my life, I had a few different moments where I felt called to God and gave my heart to Jesus." However, he emphasized that the most impactful moment was Jack's birth.
Chris elaborated, sharing the weight of his plea during Jack's health scares. "If you save my son, I will give you everything," he promised. He committed to openly discussing his faith. "And He did save my son; I've been trying to make good on that promise ever since."
Advocacy for Premature Babies
In addition to raising Jack, Chris has daughters Lyla and Eloise and a son named Ford with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger. Both he and Anna Faris have utilized their platforms to advocate for premature babies and share their birthing experiences.
During an interview with Redbook in 2015, Anna recounted the night her water broke at seven months. "We rushed to the hospital, and they were able to halt active labor with magnesium," she explained. Initially, the doctors aimed for a month-long stay before delivering Jack, but things did not go as planned. "I went into labor again after seven days," she recalled. Despite fears, she found joy in Jack’s arrival: "He looked so good to us."
Celebrating Jack
Jack celebrated his 12th birthday in August. Chris shared heartfelt wishes on Instagram, posting photos of Jack caring for animals at their farm in Washington State. He wrote, "Happy Birthday to my wonderful son Jack. I thank God every day for you, sweet boy."
Chris praised Jack’s qualities, saying, "You are so smart, hilarious, kind, thoughtful, trustworthy, and tough. I love you so much, kiddo. Twelve!? I honestly can’t believe it."
