Cyndi Lauper's Journey to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Could 2025 be the year Cyndi Lauper joins the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? The 71-year-old singer, known for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," is nominated for the Hall's 2025 class. This marks her second nomination, following the 2023 ballot, PEOPLE reported.
Lauper describes this moment as "exciting," but clarifies that induction does not define her artistry. "I’ve been singing rock and roll most of my life, so I know I'm a rocker," she states.
Along with Lauper, fellow nominees for 2025 include Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, OutKast, Phish, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.
Last year, the Hall welcomed inductees like Mary J. Blige and Cher, and Lauper highlights the growing recognition of female artists: "It’s exciting that more women are being acknowledged," she expresses.

Lauper shares anecdotes from her career, recalling times she faced challenges for pursuing rock music. "I got thrown out of a jazz school because I wouldn't quit that rock band," she reveals. She started as a member of Blue Angel, then gained fame with her 1983 album, "She's So Unusual."
The artist acknowledges the legacy of music and those who paved the way. "We all stand on the shoulders of the people that came before us," she states. Lauper believes that each artist's work influences future generations.
Expressing her passion, she mentions, "I love the history of music, modern music, and performance art." Lauper shares that she is "excited and grateful" for her continued journey in music.

The unveiled names of inductees will be in late April, with this year’s ceremony in Los Angeles during the fall. Currently, Lauper is engaged in her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, announcing a second leg for North America this summer.
Earlier, SSP wrote that Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively will miss this year's Met Gala.
