Daniel Craig Praises Chappell Roan for Addressing Fame's Pressures: ‘Celebrity Kills You’
The 56-year-old Daniel Craig praised the "Hot to Go" singer Chappell Roan for setting boundaries with fans. He recognized Roan’s bravery in voicing the pressures that accompany fame. Roan achieved mainstream success following her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
"I really admire the guts to say those things," Craig stated in a November 20 interview with The New York Times. "Celebrity kills you. It’s a terrible thing that can happen. You must fight against the temptations it presents."
Craig emphasized that modern celebrity is focused more on branding than on art. "Generating and maintaining that brand relies heavily on exposure," he noted.
When asked about feeling pressured to be a brand himself, Craig responded, "Am I a brand? Social media is required, and I can’t do that. I even regret the emails I send."
In August, Roan, 26, candidly addressed fans who feel entitled to photos or hugs when they meet her. Through her platforms, she criticized fans’ "predatory" behavior and harassment.
"I don’t care that abuse, harassment, stalking, or anything similar is common for famous people," Roan shared in a TikTok video. "That does not make it OK. It doesn’t mean I want it or like it."
She further expressed her frustration, stating, "I don’t want whatever you think you’re entitled to when you see a celebrity. I don’t care if you think it’s selfish for me to decline a photo or a hug. It’s strange how people feel they know you because they watch you online."
In an Instagram statement later that month, Roan highlighted that her choice to pursue music stemmed from her passion for art. However, that passion does not obligate her to anyone's time.
