Dax Shepard Discusses Low Salary on Parenthood

During a recent Parenthood reunion, Dax Shepard shared with his former co-star, Lauren Graham, that he earned "among the lowest" salaries of the cast in the popular NBC series.
Ten years after the series ended, Dax candidly revealed his salary while playing Crosby Braverman for six seasons. He mentioned, "I know I was making among the lowest of all the actors," during the March 10 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast. For humor, he noted how he would often suggest to "cumulatively chip in" with the rest of the cast for the crew's inexpensive gifts, reflecting his financial constraints.
The 50-year-old actor joked about the countless emails exchanged to agree on gifts. He remembered his mindset at the time, playfully suggesting a simple gift like a mug due to his earnings.

Despite his salary, Dax expressed how happy he felt while working on Parenthood. He explained that throughout his previous jobs, he actively sought to find out the salaries of his colleagues. "I would always figure it out," he shared, using conversations and back channels through agents.
However, he decided to "purposefully not find out" during Parenthood. This shift in mindset allowed Dax to appreciate his work and his co-stars more. He said, "If I find out Jabbar [Dax’s onscreen son played by Tyree Brown] is making twice as much as me, how could I enjoy going to work?" This realization marked the first time he broke that habit.
As for a Parenthood reboot, Dax expressed mixed feelings: "I don’t desire to act at all, but I deeply miss being on Parenthood." He mentioned he would be open to participating in a version of the show, potentially an eight or ten-episode run. "I wouldn't care how it turns out. I just wanna go hang out with you guys," he told Lauren.
