Debra Messing on Why She Never Rewatches Will & Grace and Her Excitement for The Alto Knights

Debra Messing gained fame for her role as Grace Adler in "Will & Grace." However, she admits that she never re-watches the show.
"Never," the 56-year-old actress exclusively stated to Us Weekly. This comment came during the premiere of "The Alto Knights" on March 15 in New York City. Messing shared that her 20-year-old son, Roman, has not seen a single episode either. (Messing shares Roman with ex-husband Daniel Zelman.)
Messing mentioned that the show makes her son feel uncomfortable. "It’s not normal seeing your mother as a younger person on television," she explained. Roman seems confused, thinking, "Well, it’s your mother," as he observes her on the screen, reflecting on how she looked at 30. She noted, "It’s kind of weird," but remained optimistic, saying, "I think someday he’ll come to it."

On "Will & Grace," Messing portrayed Grace, a straight interior designer. The series aired for eight seasons from 1998 until 2006. Grace lived with her gay best friend and lawyer, Will Truman, played by Eric McCormack. Together, they navigated humorous adventures alongside their friends, Jack McFarland and Karen Walker.
Both Messing and McCormack returned for additional seasons that aired from 2017 to 2020. While Messing does not enjoy rewatching the series, McCormack has a different perspective.
In March, McCormack stated that watching reruns feels like reminiscing with "family movies" or "home movies." He prefers to view outtakes, calling them a reminder of an amazing job.
Interestingly, McCormack’s own son, Finn, also avoids reruns. He once commented during Thanksgiving while watching an episode, questioning, "Are you just going to sit and watch yourself on television all day? This is appalling!"

Messing found Finn’s reaction amusing, replying to Us Weekly, "That’s hilarious," and added, "And it doesn’t surprise me."
Although the two former costars have differing views on reruns, they maintain a close friendship. Messing mentioned they currently lack a joint project but expressed, "I think we both would be really excited about that."
Recently, Messing has focused on her career, starring in "The Alto Knights," which premieres on March 21. In the film, she portrays Bobbie Costello, wife of one of two characters played by Robert De Niro. She excitedly shared that viewers will be surprised by his transformation as he plays two notorious characters involved in organized crime.
"The artistry of prosthetics is unbelievable," Messing stated. She marveled at De Niro's commitment, noting, "He sat in that chair for three and a half hours every day." Following a screening, she expressed her astonishment at seeing both of his characters side by side, adding, "I was blown away."
