Devon Sawa Tired of Horror Movies, Expresses Desire to Star in Rom-Com
Devon Sawa is eager to explore a traditional romantic comedy following a successful stint in horror films. At 46, Sawa, known for roles in horror classics like "Idle Hands" and "Final Destination," expresses interest in broadening his cinematic repertoire. His latest project, "Heart Eyes," directed by Josh Ruben, endeavors to blend horror, rom-com elements, and comedy. Starring Olivia Holt as Ally, a determined advertising executive, and Mason Gooding as freelancer Jay, the film explores their budding but risky romance, especially with the looming threat of the Heart Eyes Killer—a notorious villain who murders couples on Valentine's Day. This is prepared by SSP.
"I love horror, but I'm all about exploring everything," Sawa expressed. He dreams of starring in a project like Sleepless in Seattle. "I think it would be so much fun," he continues.
Heart Eyes garners attention for its unique mixture of thrilling mystery, humor, and romance. Ruben insists on a balanced treatment of both genres, creating a distinctive cinematic experience reminiscent of films like "Scream" and comedic parodies such as "Scary Movie." Set for release on February 7, "Heart Eyes" promises not only horror-driven excitement as audiences witness the Heart Eyes Killer's relentless pursuit but also romantic comedy that fuels lightheartedness and laughter.
Ruben explains, "I am a massive fan of Devon from his horror era." He appreciates Sawa's resurgence, affectionately referencing his growing popularity. "He’s arguably the most beloved of the cast by so many," Ruben reflects.
Sawa also added that Heart Eyes transcends being just a "great Valentine’s Day" movie. He insists it plays a unique role in the slasher genre, adding something distinct to it. He calls for audience participation, comparing it to Final Destination, where collective reactions enhance the experience.
