Drew Barrymore Reflects on Life Choices, Mentiones Ex-Husband and End of Acting Career
Drew Barrymore has openly discussed her experience dealing with her divorce from Will Kopelman and deciding to step away from acting to focus on family. In an interview with AARP The Magazine's February/March 2025 issue, Barrymore, 49, recounted the challenges she faced when her marriage ended in 2016 after four years. She knew enduring the separation was essential to becoming a better mother to their daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10. "My dream family was falling apart, and I didn't know how to move forward," Barrymore shared. Although overcoming this painful period was difficult, she eventually managed to rise above it, understanding the importance of doing so for her kids. This is preared by SSP.
Despite Kopelman's remarriage to Alexandra Michler in 2021, Barrymore and Kopelman have established an effective co-parenting relationship. Barrymore has expressed her appreciation for Michler, stating in December 2022 that their family dynamic proves life continues. Even if her daughters encourage her to date, Barrymore isn't prioritizing finding a new partner, perhaps due to her own childhood experiences of discomfort around certain men.
Barrymore's decision to step back from acting underscores her dedication to being the parent she aspires to be. More committed to her family than Hollywood, Barrymore noted, "I was in my early 40s and needed to learn to be a healthy, independent individual and the parent I dream to be." She recognized that long filming hours were at odds with spending time with her children, marking a shift in her life after a career filled with iconic roles, including in E.T., Charlie’s Angels, and others. Currently, she embraces her role as a talk show host and continues balancing work with her priority of motherhood, while still pondering a potential future return to the screen without announcing her withdrawal from acting outright.
Earlier, SSP reported that Hoda Kotb reunited with Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie after ‘Today’ exit.
