EcoFlow Introduces Solar PowerHat That Charges Devices On-The-Go

EcoFlow's Power Hat is a new innovation for on-the-go solar charging that pairs practicality with an interesting twist. The Power Hat is a wide-brimmed sun hat integrated with thin, flexible solar cells made of passivated emitter and rear contact (PERC) monocrystalline silicon. This quirky headgear can charge a 4,000mAh smartphone to full capacity in about 3-4 hours, ideal for campers, hikers, or anyone needing to charge their electronics outdoors. This is prepared by SSP.

Priced at $129, the hat offers about 12-watt charging through USB-A and USB-C connectors located on the underside of the brim. It’s designed to withstand various environmental conditions, boasting an IP65 rating which ensures it’s both dust-proof and capable of withstanding water jets from any direction. However, caution is advised around the USB ports if exposed to water.

The hat is available in two adjustable sizes—56–58cm and 59–61cm, corresponding to U.S. hat sizes of 7 to 7 1/4 inches and 7 3/8 to 7 5/8 inches, respectively. Both models weigh approximately 370 grams (13 ounces). Available for preorder until August 31st, EcoFlow expects to begin shipments in mid-September.

Heavier compared to other camping accessories, like portable power banks and backpack-mounted solar panels, the Power Hat still offers a convenient solution for maintaining gadget power during adventures. Using crack-resistant PERC solar cells with a 23-24% efficiency rating, it achieves a maximum operating current of 2 amps at 5V, a short circuit current of 2.2 amps, and an open circuit voltage of 7.8 volts.

Adding a whimsical touch, EcoFlow released a promotional video featuring a soundtrack reminiscent of Kings of Leon, which aligns perfectly with the ambiance of a music festival.
