Eiza González Discusses Evelyn Hugo Casting Speculations

Eiza González recently spoke with E! News’ The Rundown about the rumors of her casting as Evelyn Hugo in Netflix's adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
At 35 years old, the actress's new film, Ash, is now in theaters. She is also excited about the speculation that she may portray the titular role in the adaptation. "I'd love to. It'd be such an honor," Eiza told Erin Lim Rhodes. "I love the book. I admire all of her work. I'm a huge fan."
Even though Eiza is eager to embody Evelyn Hugo, she admitted uncertainty about landing the role. "I don't know if I'll ever get it," she said, expressing that she is unsure of the project's current status.
In addition to Eiza’s hopes, the possibility of portraying the iconic Hollywood character excites others as well. Her costar Natalie Portman, who appears in Fountain of Youth, is voicing her support. "Once I was on set, Natalie Portman said, ‘I just can’t think of anyone else to do Evelyn Hugo,’" Eiza recounted. "I thought, ‘Natalie Portman is saying this to me! That’s incredible!’"
While Eiza envisions herself in this role, she reflected on the character's older version as well. In choosing another actress to play Evelyn, Eiza mentioned several possibilities, including Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, and Sofía Vergara. "There are so many amazing actresses," she acknowledged.

Regardless of the outcome, Eiza hopes the adaptation treats the source material with the same care as Daisy Jones & The Six. "I think they did a fantastic job with Daisy," she noted, adding, "that book is perfection. It must be done well."
Meanwhile, Eiza is enthusiastic for audiences to experience her latest sci-fi thriller, Ash. She described the film's story: "This movie features a woman in a spacebase on another planet, which we refer to as Planet Ash. She wakes up with no memory, surrounded by blood and bodies lying everywhere; she is the last one standing."
Eiza described Ash as a psychological survival horror film. "It was a challenging role, but I truly believe I found myself as an actress during this experience."
