Emma Hernan Discusses Boyfriend's Support Amid Affair Rumors on ‘Selling Sunset’
Emma Hernan recently shared her appreciation for her boyfriend amid surprising affair rumors that surfaced after the latest season of "Selling Sunset." "I was grateful because he knew what happened and what they did to me," Emma, 33, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly. She expressed how supportive he was and how upset he felt regarding the situation, noting that he even participated in filming. Despite his efforts, much of their content was excluded.
Emma, who has not publicly named her partner, expressed frustration about scenes related to her personal life not being featured. "There’s a few scenes where I have a bite mark on my arm, but they play it like they don’t know who it is," she explained. "We all know who it is." She added this shift in narrative felt misleading to the audience, stating, "It’s super messed up."
After several seasons of privacy in her dating life, this experience has been challenging for Emma. "As it is, I'm not super comfortable showing my personal life," she admitted. Her even modest openness led to unwarranted judgment, something that left her feeling conflicted about sharing her true life.
Before season 8’s debut, Emma was caught off guard when Nicole Young spread rumors about her alleged affair with a married man, which Emma firmly denied. Nicole has since apologized. Emma recalls her surprise, especially since she filmed numerous scenes with her boyfriend. "I’ve always been a private person regarding relationships," she reflected. The producers, however, encouraged her to share her dating experiences.
Emma remains open to showcasing more of her life in season 9, currently in production. "We’ll see what happens next season! Producers are interested in my dating life onscreen," she shared. Although her boyfriend is naturally reserved, he has supported her choices. "He was very supportive of whatever I wanted," she explained. Unfortunately, he felt disheartened by the show’s direction which painted her inaccurately.
Through these challenges, Emma deeply values her boyfriend's support. While discussing their relationship, she shared how they met through messages prior to the show, finally connecting in December. "He’s very close with my family," she noted, finding comfort that was lacking in her past relationships.
Professionally, she is also thriving with her vegan cheeseburger empanadas now served at Mel’s Diner. "My first partnership had to be something iconic," she said. Mel’s Diner, a favorite of her father's, makes this collaboration special. "My dad loves their vanilla milkshake," she added with fondness.
Emma’s empanadas will be featured on Mel’s menu permanently, supported by enthusiastic designs. "It’s going to be there forever with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lana Del Rey," she said proudly, celebrating her presence in such iconic company.
