Eric Braeden Loses Home to Pacific Palisades Fire
Actor Eric Braeden experienced a significant loss when he lost his Pacific Palisades home after over 45 years due to the tragic L.A. fires. The star of "The Young and the Restless," age 83, revealed on Instagram his decision to evacuate on Wednesday, Jan. 8. He later visited the remains of his home during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Friday, Jan. 10.
As Braeden approached the completely burned property, he became visibly emotional. Tears streamed down his face as he reflected on his long time in the home, saying, "45 years, man. I didn't think it would hit me this much, man." He continued, articulating his grief, "I'm devastated, man. I'm devastated. All the memories. I don't want my family to see this." He also expressed his disbelief about the loss, mentioning the extensive media coverage and his unexpected emotional response.
Braeden shared memories of hosting gatherings for up to 250 guests in the home, emphasizing the profound sense of loss many in ordeal now suffer. "It's such a feeling of loss, man," Braeden remarked, calling the feeling "indescribable" and saying it leaves one "totally disoriented."
In discussing the evacuation itself, Braeden acknowledged that they packed their belongings until the last possible minute. He noted, "We didn't think it was going to come here." Emergency responders had reassured them that the wind would steer the flames away from their area. Due to this belief, they waited until the final hour to gather essential documents and items.
Braeden later learned of the destruction of their home from his co-star Joshua Morrow, who managed to share footage despite barriers. The Palisades Fire ignited on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and has become the largest fire affecting Los Angeles County. It has devastated more than 21,000 acres in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu, with only 8% containment reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). Furthermore, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner (DME) confirmed that there have been 11 fire-related deaths reported in the L.A. area as of Friday afternoon.
