Eva Longoria Pledges $1 Million to Support the Latino Community and Fire Recovery in Los Angeles

Eva Longoria is taking action to support victims of the ongoing Los Angeles fires, PEOPLE reported. On January 13, the actress's organization, the Eva Longoria Foundation, committed $1 million to two significant initiatives: Julián Castro's Latino Community Foundation's Wildfire Relief Fund and the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund. These organizations focus on supporting grassroots groups engaged in local community aid.

Longoria, 49, sourced this pledge from her winnings of the Bezos Courage & Civility Award. This award, given by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, aims to spotlight "leaders who aim high and pursue solutions with courage and civility." Alongside this honor, Longoria received $50 million to allocate to her chosen charities.

In comments made on the January 14 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, she expressed gratitude for the award. "I was fortunate to receive the Courage and Civility Award, which aligns with the goals of my foundation: education, entrepreneurship, and economic mobility," Longoria shared.

Furthermore, after announcing her pledge, she revealed on Instagram her intent to match $50,000 to the efforts of This Is About Humanity. This initiative is designed to support frontline workers, farm workers, day laborers, and families affected by the wildfires.

On January 15, Longoria returned to Los Angeles to aid the Eaton fire relief efforts. Her day began at Global Empowerment Mission, where she helped pack and distribute fire relief and PPE care packages to the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON). Longoria also provided meals created by World Central Kitchen to victims, first responders, and volunteers.

There have been 25 reported fatalities due to the L.A. fires. As of Wednesday, the Eaton fire had burned 14,117 acres and was 45% contained. The Hurst fire has consumed 799 acres and is 98% contained, while the Palisades fire has affected 23,713 acres and is currently 21% contained.
