FKA Twigs Explains How North West Got Into "Childlike Things"

FKA twigs shared how her track "Childlike Things" from her album Eusexua found its standout feature in North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye (formerly Kanye West). The British singer recently revealed in an Instagram video how this collaboration unfolded, divulging the story during a makeup session titled "papaya tea storytime." This is prepared by SSP.

Twigs, whose real name is Tahlia Debrett Barnett, recalled starting the song two decades prior when childhood lyrics flowed into her mind during recording. Inspired by her favorite book, Where the Wild Things Are, twigs’ lyrics, like "I’ve got supersonic powers that are polyphonic," represent her early dreams of stardom and creativity. Realizing the song needed a collaborator with "childlike energy," she thought of North after seeing a confident interview with her.

At just 11, North made an impression with her believability and faith, themes that seamlessly fit into the whimsical and expressive nature of the track. Twigs reflected on how North confidently shared her beliefs, deciding North was the perfect match. Consequently, North added a verse, also utilizing her interest in languages by rapping in Japanese, connecting California to Tokyo and paying homage to her faith in Jesus.
Present on Eusexua, which premiered in January and marked twigs' best Billboard 200 debut at No. 24, "Childlike Things" crowned its years-long journey with pure serendipity and manifestation. Highlighting the unique collaborative spirit, twigs wrapped up her Instagram clip by conveying her gratitude for North. Notably, the song's bridge from childhood creation to artistic maturity was achieved when twigs was reminded of those initial verses and North amplified them.
With fans noting the track's profound narrative and its journey from twigs' childhood dream to international collaboration, the song’s lasting impact and renewed appreciation resonated broadly upon Eusexua's release. This collaboration had North breathing new life into twigs' seminal work "Childrenlike Things," deepening and brightening its resonance decades after its inception.
