Oprah Winfrey organized a spectacular surprise 70th birthday celebration for her best friend, Gayle King. The video of Gayle's reaction will surely make you smile.
Although Gayle didn’t jump on a couch, her surprise party is enough to make anyone leap with joy. Oprah held this star-studded early celebration for her longtime friend, who turns 70 on December 28. On December 14, both shared a video on Instagram. In it, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle walks into a bustling restaurant with Oprah. Suddenly, a large group of friends shouts, "Surprise!"
Gayle reacts in disbelief, staggering backward. She drops her purse on a table and places her hands on her chest.
"My bestie of 50 years is turning 70, so we gathered everyone who loves her to celebrate," Oprah wrote in the post. "It was hard to surprise her. Oh, the stories we invented and the lies we told to keep this a secret. Happy birthday @gayleking; sorry we almost gave you a heart attack."
Gayle later described the event on her Instagram. "Talk about a surprise!" she wrote. "I thought I was attending @oprah's holiday dinner for the @oprahdaily team at her favorite restaurant, and then THIS happened…"
The impressive guest list included personalities like Robert De Niro and Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles. The crowd soon sang "Happy Birthday" to Gayle.
Dressed in a teal fringed dress, Gayle enjoyed the disco-themed event. The venue featured dazzling gold mirror ball walls and lively music. CBS Mornings producer Gisela Margarita Pérez shared behind-the-scenes images. The celebration culminated with a four-tier cake, exquisitely crafted to resemble Gayle.
At the party, Oprah, who celebrated her own 70th in January, thanked guests. "Thank you all so much for coming through for my best friend," she remarked, holding Gayle's hand.
Numerous celebrities conveyed their warm wishes online.
"Wow!" John Legend commented on Gayle's post. "Happy birthday, Gayle! We love you!"
