Geomagnetic Activity Report for September 14, 2024
According to NOAA, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, a K-index of 5 is expected, indicating a minor geomagnetic storm. This level of geomagnetic disturbance can cause minor yet noticeable fluctuations in Earth's magnetic field, leading to visible auroras at higher latitudes and potentially impacting technology and human health.
Individuals sensitive to weather, particularly those with migraines or cardiovascular issues, may report symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, mood swings, and sleep disturbances due to electromagnetic activity affecting blood pressure and circadian rhythms. It's advisable for these individuals to closely monitor their symptoms and take precautions like resting and avoiding overstimulation during this period.
In addition, minor to moderate solar storm conditions (G1-G2) are projected for September 14, prompted by Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) activity. There’s also a slight probability of minor solar radiation storm conditions (S1) occurring between September 13 and 15.
There is a likelihood of experiencing R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate) radio blackouts, with a slight chance of R3 or more severe disruptions on September 14.
Although the anticipated geomagnetic and solar activities pose minor risks, awareness, and proactive measures can help individuals, particularly those sensitive to electromagnetic changes, manage their health and adapt during these events.
