Grace Potter Faces Threats from California Fires and Reflects on Past Losses
Grace Potter is prioritizing safety during the recent fires in California. In an Instagram Reel posted on January 8, the "Mother Road" artist discussed her experiences following the Los Angeles fires. This comes after she recently faced danger in New Orleans during a terror attack and suffered the loss of her Vermont home due to flooding last summer, PEOPLE reported.
In her message, Potter noted, "We are safely evacuated from Topanga Canyon, but many are still in harm's way." She mentioned that the place she evacuated to is also under evacuation orders. "They just announced the schools are shut," she added. Potter had just arrived in L.A. after a cross-country trip from New Orleans, where she was present during the terror attack on January 1, which tragically impacted many lives.
Reflecting on her experiences, she acknowledged that her farm in Fayston, Vermont, was "devastated by the floods." She stressed the unpredictability of life and advised her followers to stay alert during emergencies. Potter said, "Life is wildly unpredictable, and it’s important to keep your heart strong and your mind clear. If you see smoke, don’t wait for a cell signal."
She urged her followers to trust their instincts: "Pack the necessities & GET OUT." Expressing gratitude, she mentioned her appreciation for family, friends, and firefighters, saying, "We are lucky. Stay safe out there, folks."
In the video shared on January 8, Potter drove away from the smoke, humorously questioning her involvement in dangerous situations. "Am I a storm chaser, or do I just like being in places where really bad things happen? I don't know," she said. She shared her plans to pick up her son Sagan, 7, from school and secure hotel accommodation.
Earlier, on January 1, while in New Orleans, Potter was celebrating New Year's when chaos broke out on Bourbon Street, claiming numerous lives and injuring many others. In a joint Instagram post, she and her husband, Eric Valentine, reflected on their close call when a car raced through the crowd near their location.
Valentine expressed their gratitude for safety, saying, "I am grateful for the brave people who put their lives on the line to keep us safe." Their hearts went out to those impacted by the violence.
In July, after flooding damaged her Vermont farm, Potter shared troubling images of overflowing rivers and flooded roads. She insisted that the Grand Point North Festival would help benefit flood victims and expressed solidarity with her Vermont community: "Vermont, my heart is with you. I’ll be home soon, and we will rebuild as we always do."
On January 8, she shared a map of the California fires and noted, "Emotionally preparing to lose our home. All I can do now is hope for a miracle & send love to the Canyon that brought me back into the daylight." The fires started on January 7 and have affected thousands of structures.
