Hilary Duff Jokes She Was ‘Lied’ About Challenges in Expanding Her Family

Hilary Duff, now a mother of four, faced her greatest parenting challenge when she welcomed baby number three. "People lied to me and said that reaching three kids is easy," Duff, 37, shared in the latest edition of Us Weekly. "Three sent me for a loop. I could not get my feet to touch the ground for a solid year."

Duff and her husband, Matthew Koma, married in December 2019. Before this, Duff already had a son, Luca, who is now 12, from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie. The couple's first child together, daughter Banks, was born in October 2018. They welcomed daughters Mae in 2021 and Townes in 2024.

As Duff navigates life as a mother of four, she has learned to adapt and let go of the guilt surrounding perfectionism. "Having four kids has taught me that I can’t control everyone’s happiness," she explained. "I don’t have to constantly direct everything. I try my hardest, but it’s nice to say no a bit more."

This realization came through experience. Duff had expected her third child to fit seamlessly into their family. Instead, Mae surprised her with a strong personality. "She is a wild woman with her own ideas," Duff noted, adding that she is "obsessed" with her daughter’s spirit. "We liked her enough to go for number four," she joked. "It felt like there was space, even if I'm not sure there is."

In addition to her strong support system, Duff uses tools like Meta AI to help manage her responsibilities, especially during the holidays. "Moms carry a heavy burden. I often wake up at night thinking about things I haven’t handled," she said. "I love making the holidays magical for everyone, but now it’s a lot." She expressed enthusiasm about her partnership with Meta AI. "It feels like a thought partner. I can bounce ideas around, and it provides fresh perspectives."
