Honor Unveils AI-Powered Defocus Eye Protection at MWC Shanghai 2024

Honor, the renowned smartphone manufacturer, made significant announcements regarding its latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) at the prestigious Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2024. During the keynote session, titled "The Human-AI Synergy: Intelligent Devices Will Empower People Better," Honor introduced two cutting-edge AI technologies aimed at ensuring user safety and privacy. The first innovation unveiled was the AI Defocus Eye Protection, a revolutionary solution addressing the growing concern of myopia caused by prolonged screen usage. Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of peripheral defocus lenses in mitigating myopia. Honor's technology harnesses AI to simulate the defocus effect on smart device displays. It aims to reduce users' transient myopia by an average of 13 degrees after just 25 minutes of use. Impressive results have shown some users experiencing a maximum reduction of 75 degrees, thereby reducing the risk of myopia.

The second innovation showcased by Honor was the AI-powered Deepfake Detection technology. Deepfakes, or synthetic videos, pose a significant challenge as they can be used for spreading misinformation and manipulating individuals. Honor's on-device AI technology analyzes videos frame-by-frame, scrutinizing elements such as eye contact, lighting, image clarity, and video playback imperceptible to the human eye. Utilizing a vast dataset incorporating videos and images related to online scams, the technology performs rapid identification, screening, and comparison within an astounding three-second timeframe. If a deepfake is detected, it provides users with a risk warning, effectively protecting them from falling victim to scams.
