Id Software Relaunches Doom and Doom II With Bundle Full of Upgrades
For those who haven’t experienced Doom or Doom II recently — or ever — there’s now an ideal opportunity to dive into these classics with Bethesda’s newly re-released bundle, Doom + Doom II, which became available on Thursday. This combined package not only merges both games but comes loaded with a host of upgrades, available as a free update for current owners of either game. This reissue includes a fresh single-player episode and introduces online, cross-platform multiplayer deathmatches. This is prepared by SSP.
Doom + Doom II provides access to both original games along with extra single-player content such as John Romero’s 2019 Sigil episode and a new Doom episode titled Legacy of Rust, created by contributors from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames. Furthermore, a new in-game mod browser allows players to download single-player mods easily. Multiplayer enthusiasts will enjoy 25 additional deathmatch maps, bringing the total to 43. The cross-platform deathmatch and co-op modes support gameplay for up to 16 players.
Moreover, the remastered games offer 4K resolution and 120fps for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X/S players. The games feature updated music by Andrew Hulshult, known for his work on Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods DLC, allowing players to switch between new and original tracks. Enhanced accessibility options, including more legible fonts and a high-contrast mode, are also part of these updates.
The comprehensive package contains notable Doom classics:
1. Doom
2. Doom II
3. TNT: Evilution
4. The Plutonia Experiment
5. Master Levels for Doom II
6. No Rest for the Living
7. Sigil
And the newly crafted Legacy of Rust.
A new deathmatch map pack containing 26 maps further enriches the replayability, totaling 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps across both games.
Available on PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, plus other consoles like Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch, existing owners of the enhanced Doom games on Steam can upgrade to this new edition for free.
In addition to this bundle, Bethesda announced at QuakeCon a physical edition collection titled Doom Anthology, featuring Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, the 2016 Doom reboot, and Doom Eternal Deluxe Edition in a Steelbook case, set to launch on October 22. Furthermore, a Limited Run Games reissue of Doom for the SNES is slated for a 2025 release, with only 666 copies being made.
