Instagram is Testing Vertical Grids to Align with Current Trends

Instagram is currently testing an update that could transform profile grids from squares to vertical rectangles, a shift that aligns with the current trend of vertical photo and video content. As Instagram chief Adam Mosseri highlighted, most images uploaded today are vertical, typically in a 4 by 3 format for photos or 9 by 16 for videos, making it challenging to crop them into squares. He mentioned that while the square grid design originated when only square photos could be uploaded prior to 2015, it's time to better accommodate the prevailing vertical content. Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai confirmed, "We’re testing this vertical profile grid with a small number of users and are keenly paying attention to community feedback before making any further decisions."
