Jamie Foxx Discusses His Mysterious Health Scare: Key Takeaways from Netflix Special
Jamie Foxx recently shared insights into his 2023 health scare during his new Netflix comedy special. The special, titled Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, premiered on December 10.
In a candid moment, Foxx, who is 56, discussed his hospitalization. He revealed he suffered a brain bleed that caused a stroke following a severe headache in April 2023. This candid revelation comes nearly two years after he faced medical complications while filming Back in Action in Atlanta.
His eldest daughter, Corinne Foxx shared that her father was recovering well at that time, thanks to prompt actions and quality care. Jamie shares Corinne with ex-partner Connie Kline and has another daughter, Anelise, aged 15, with ex Kristen Grannis.
Despite his layoff in discussing specifics about his health ordeal, Foxx broke his silence in July 2023. He aimed to clarify rumors circulating about his condition. In an Instagram video, he stated, "You know, by being quiet, sometimes things get out of hand." He stressed, "They said I was blind, but as you can see, the eyes are working. The eyes are working just fine!" He dismissed claims of paralysis, emphasizing that he faced tough challenges but was determined to recover.
Foxx expressed, "I went through something I thought I would never ever experience." He wanted fans to remember him for his humor and lively spirit during difficult times. "I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me," he noted, highlighting the immense support he received from his family. Their protective nature during his health crisis was vital to him.
Earlier this year, Foxx returned to filming his upcoming Netflix movie alongside Cameron Diaz. In September, he took on the special honor of walking Corinne down the aisle at her wedding to Joe Hooten. One month later, he performed in his first stand-up show since his hospital release, where he relayed his joy after filming the Netflix special. Foxx conveyed that his "heart and soul is filled with nothing but pure joy," and hinted that the special will provide him "an opportunity to tell my side of the story."
